Project Accelerator Kicks Off
The Plan Vivo Project Accelerator, dedicated to supporting prospective and migratory PV Climate projects, has launched its pilot cohort.
Plan Vivo will be working with six pipeline PV Climate projects in Kenya, Rwanda, Ghana, Malawi and India, and two projects, based in Timor Leste and Indonesia, that are migrating to Plan Vivo’s updated Carbon Standard (PV Climate V5).
The Accelerator projects will benefit from online learning content specifically created for by consultancy group Terranomics with independent industry experts also sharing their expertise during various sessions.
The programme officially kicked off in October and has already covered two modules. Within the second module, the projects were presented with a first hand account of project development by Sil Lanckriet, co-founder of Climate Lab.
Plan Vivo and Terranomics have been developing the content for the Accelerator over the past six months, drawing on input from the pilot cohort and experts in the field. Modules include the Project Design Document, FPIC and Community Engagement, Carbon Accounting, Financial Planning, Monitoring and Reporting, Marketing and Communications, and Sales and Negotiations. The modules are delivered every other week and will run until March of 2025.
Projects on the pilot cohort also benefit from one-to-one mentoring provided by industry experts from organisations such as Carbon Tanzania, Taking Root, GreenCollar, and Nakau. Mentors will provide impartial and high level guidance to projects as they navigate their way through project development.
Further assistance will be provided to the projects by third party experts with experience in areas such as carbon accounting and financial modelling. Successful projects will also benefit from funding towards their validation costs.
For pilot cohort members joining the Plan Vivo Accelerator has been transformative for the project. Ultimately, the goal of the Accelerator is to help projects secure finance, achieve third-party validation and secure PV Climate certification. This will result in a greater positive impact for nature, climate and communities.
It [the Accelerator] will provide us with the tools, expertise, and support needed to scale our impact, enabling us to unlock sustainable finance for smallholder farmers and restore Ghana’s degraded lands. Plan Vivo’s rigorous standards and framework give us the confidence that our projects not only contribute meaningfully to global climate goals but also create lasting, tangible benefits for our local communities.”
