Plan Vivo certification gives confidence to buyers and investors that a project meets the highest standards and is aligned with international best practice. Our model ensures that projects are backed by science, co-created with local communities, and deliver meaningful and measurable impacts for people and planet.
What are Plan Vivo Certificates?
Once a project is Plan Vivo certified it can generate and sell Plan Vivo Certificates, known as PVCs. The income generated from the sale of PVCs provides projects with a long-term, sustainable source of income and ensures projects can fund, expand and sustain their crucial work.
For our carbon projects, one PVC represents the reduction or removal of one tonne of CO2 emissions and provides a mechanism for organisations and individuals to address their unavoidable emissions and go beyond carbon by supporting projects that also deliver for people and nature.

At Plan Vivo we only certify high-integrity nature-based projects that meet the highest standards and adhere to internationally recognised best practice. Our certified projects are designed, implemented and managed with the local community – and perhaps most importantly – at least 60% of the revenue from the sale of each PVC goes directly to the local community. This is a unique requirement that Plan Vivo is internationally recognised for.

Purchase Pathways
Currently PVCs are only available to buy from Plan Vivo certified carbon projects. As the certification Standard, Plan Vivo does not sell PVCs or get involved in the sales process. PVCs can be purchased directly through projects or through our intermediary partners.
PV Climate Registry
All PVCs are issued, transacted and retired on our third party registry by the project or by a registered intermediary partner. The PV Climate registry is managed by our partners S&P Global.
