About Plan Vivo
Who we are
We’re a leading certification system for nature-based projects in climate and nature markets.
For more than 25 years, Plan Vivo has supported community-led projects that protect and restore crucial ecosystems and strengthen local livelihoods. Our role is to ensure these projects are recognised, valued, and fairly compensated for the impact they deliver.
Our focus is simple: meaningful outcomes, transparent systems, and high-integrity projects that support the Indigenous Peoples and communities that call these landscapes home.
What we do
We operate two internationally recognised certification standards, our Carbon Standard (PV Climate) and our Biodiversity Standard (PV Nature).
Eligible nature-based projects from around the world can choose to certify beneath PV Climate or PV Nature, depending on the focus of their project and its interventions.
Once certified, projects can generate Plan Vivo Certificates (PVCs). PVCs are then bought by responsible organisations seeking credible, long-term impact to invest in.
Crucially, to ensure those on the ground receive a fair and reliable income, at least 60% of the revenue generated from the sale of Plan Vivo Certificates goes back to the local community. This income is used to sustain and expand the work of the project and invest in local initiatives.
