Applications open for Plan Vivo Accelerator

A man stands in a plant nursery watering seedlings with a hose.

Applications are now open for Cohort Two of the Plan Vivo Project Accelerator programme. For the second year running, the Accelerator will be run in partnership with Terranomics, a consultancy specialising in nature-based solutions, and their consortium partners, The Landscapes and Livelihoods Group, EKOS, and FORM International.

In recent years the demand for high-integrity nature-based carbon credits has increased. However high development costs, the level of technical expertise required, and the need to engage with communities effectively, mean developers frequently struggle to bring high-quality projects to market.

For the PV Climate projects involved in the programme, the Accelerator aims to alleviate these issues by providing specific training, investment readiness guidance from industry experts.

Over the course of the year, projects will work to:

  • Draft high quality project design documents (PDDs)
  • Develop detailed financial plans, cash flow forecasts and funding strategies
  • Establish robust business models and develop effective marketing campaigns

Engaged projects will also have the unique opportunity to attend the Accelerator Pitch Day, where projects can showcase investment opportunities to a select group of investors and philanthropic organisations.

We are delighted to be continuing our support for the Accelerator, and excited to see the scale up in technical assistance and investment readiness in its second year. We greatly look forward to working with the new cohort to progress their high-integrity, community-focused projects towards implementation, alongside our partners The Landscapes and Livelihoods Group, Ekos and Form International.

By providing a holistic range of support, the Accelerator will fast track projects on their journey to achieving certification under PV Climate V5.

The pilot cohort of the Accelerator kicked off in October of 2024 and saw eight participating projects from across East Africa and the Pacific complete the in-depth programme.

We have utilised the key learnings from the pilot cohort to improve Cohort Two for participating projects. A central focus moving forwards will be to provide greater technical support — identified by our pilot cohort as invaluable — and as an area where further support and guidance is needed from industry experts. An increased focus on investment readiness will also feature throughout Cohort Two, with projects receiving tailored one-to-one support from experienced actors in the sector. Highlighted feedback also suggested a greater need for peer-to-peer learning opportunities, which has been incorporated into the design of Cohort Two to create a more engaging learning space with key knowledge sharing opportunities.

Cohort Two of the 12-month Accelerator Programme will kick off in October 2025. Applications for Cohort Two of the Accelerator are now open. Anyone interested can find out more about the application process in the Accelerator section of our website.

Hear from Cohort One

Don’t just take it from us. Hear from the projects that participated in Cohort One of the Plan Vivo Project Accelerator, who are now working towards PV Climate certification:

The support and interaction—from both the core team and other cohort participants—has provided invaluable insight into the challenges and solutions around measuring, reporting, validation, and scaling community-led initiatives. It’s helped us connect with aligned partners, validate our approach, and unlock new momentum for climate and smallholder impact.

It [the Accelerator] will provide us with the tools, expertise, and support needed to scale our impact, enabling us to unlock sustainable finance for smallholder farmers and restore Ghana’s degraded lands. Plan Vivo’s rigorous standards and framework give us the confidence that our projects not only contribute meaningfully to global climate goals but also create lasting, tangible benefits for our local communities.”
