Advancing Nature-Based Solutions in a Post-Paris World
When: 22nd of October | 08.30 – 17.00
Where: Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation (ECCI), 1/9 High School Yards, EH1 1LZ https://edinburghcentre.org/
Why: International climate negotiations have reached a critical stage, with upcoming discussions in Chile focusing on the post-2020 framework and operationalizing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. As we approach this new phase of international rules, and to incorporate lessons from over 20 years of experience with community-based ecosystem restoration, the Plan Vivo Standard would like to invite you to its stakeholder conference to highlight community-driven climate action and how it can contribute to global developments advancing nature-based solutions and ecological restoration.
Please join us on Tuesday, October 22nd 2019, to discuss the post-2020 institutional landscape, scaling up natural climate solutions and insights and perspectives from a growing body of forest carbon projects.
Who: The event is co-hosted by the Centre for Sustainable Forests and Landscapes and aims to bring together Plan Vivo project representatives, the private sector, reselling partners, sustainability consultants, and actors from the environmental finance community with a shared interest in nature-based solutions that benefit local people.
Plan Vivo is a world-leading certification Standard with a focus on community-driven climate action and sustainable development. Its ethical approach ensures that participatory ecosystem restoration and conservation projects improve livelihoods, ensure equitable benefit sharing and contribute to sustainable land use. Today, more than 100,000 people, including smallholder farmers and rural communities, are involved in managing their land sustainably under the Plan Vivo framework.
With 21 certified, operational projects, the Plan Vivo Standard is now being utilized in over 30 countries in Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa and Central Asia and Asia Pacific. More than US$ 21 million have been channelled to local community groups, and activities implemented are set to deliver reductions of over 3.5 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.
