This project will help small-holding farmers in Rwanda diversify their income whilst adpating to and mitigating climate change through implementing improved land-use systems. Activities will include fruit orchards, agro-forestry and small-scale woodlts, with long-term objectives of catalyzing sustainabe economic growth, improving soil conservation and building local capacity.
This project will work with communities in Malawi on land-types including deforested hilsides, riverbanks and wetand margins to identify more sustainable land-use activities that promote sustainable livelihoods and encourage diversity. Income will be derived from activities such as agroforestry and woodlts for timber, fuelwood and poles, and establishing woodlots should reduce pressure on nearby protected forests and reduce soil erosion, whilst also promoting biodiversity throug planting indigenous species.
