  • Project management

The project is managed by AMBIO, with support and training from The Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Management.

Ambio

Ambio is a mexican environmental co-operative, which is holder of the administrative aspects of the project. The trust fund FBC (Fondo Bioclimatico), is also managed within Ambio.

Elsa Esquivel Bazan

Elsa holds a Masters which specialised in Environment and Integrated Development, and has been working for 10 years in the Scolel Te Project. Her role is management and legal representative, and she is also trustor of the Bioclimate Fund Trust (FBC). Since the beginning of Scolel Te in 1997, Elsa has contributed to the development of technical and administrative aspects of the proejct and has made significant progress in improving buyer confidence and seller benefits.

Sotero Quechulpa Montalvo

Since 2000 Sotero has been the technical coordinator of training and technical assistance for Scolel Te. He has specialisations in environmental services, agroforestry and fire management. He holds a diploma in Regional Rural Development, and has experience in other social organisations on working on projects in Chiapas State.

Nicolas Hernandez Perez

Nicolas is the technical assistant in Scolel Te. He was involved in the organisation of the communities in the project from its beginning in 1994. He supports community technicians and assists with monitoring.

Jose Luis Perez Vazquez

Jose has been involved in Scolel Te since 1998 and is the assistant accountant and assistant manager.

Jose Aldofo de Leon Santizo

Since 1997 Jose has been involved in the project, and has over 22 years of experience in social capacities.

Fernando Lopez Aguilar

Since 1998 Fernando has worked for Scolel Te, and is now the social advisor for the project.

  • Local organisations

Forestry activities are planned and undertaken by groups and communities of small farmers affiliated to local organizations such as AMEXTRA and the Union de Credito Pajal.

  • Regulatory approval

The project is part of Mexicos official Programme of Joint Implementation to Reduce Climate Change and is also registered with the US Initiative for Joint Implementation.

  • Research and development

Various organisations have been involved in the development of the project and associated research including El Colegio de la Frontera Sur El Colegio de la Fronter Sur, (ECOSUR), the University of Edinburgh and the Mexican Governments National Institute of Ecology (INE).

Dr. Ben De Jong

Ben led the research on the Scolel Te project at ECOSUR. His background including Forestry Advisor for PRONATURA, Head of the Technological Research Division for the Mexico Government and consultant for a carbon sequestration initiative in Brazil, means he brings great expertise to the project research.

Dr. Guillermo Jimenez Ferrer

Guillermo speialises in silvopastoral systems and is involved in research on the Scolel Te project which is funded by CONACYT (Condejo Nacional Ciencia y Technologia).

  • Financial support

The project is supported by the FIA Foundation for the automobile and society. UK DFIDs Forestry Research Programme, and the Mexican Instituto National de Ecologia have also funded associated research into carbon management and rural livelihoods.

  • Purchasers

The project has supplied credits to offset greenhouse gas emissions from the Formula 1 championships from 1997 and the World Rally championships since 2001. Future Forests, one of the leading climate mitigation companies, have also purchased credits on behalf of several organisations including the World Economic Forum, D Ieteren-Audi and Pink Floyd. The World Bank is one of the projects latest clients.
