Independent verifiers

To provide greater transparency of its actions and accounting a project may seek independent verification. This may be at the request of the purchaser and will certainly be a requirement of projects selling carbon credits through the Clean Development Mechanism. Verification may be carried out against international standards, such as the CDM requirements, or a standard specified by the purchaser. Alternatively a project could be verified against its own systems and procedures.
